You are inspired by the power of acting. You understand the critical relationship between the actor, the story, and the camera, and how it shapes an audience's reaction to you. You are ready for relentless self-discovery, and to take the necessary steps on your journey. You possess the commitment to honing your most valuable instrument, YOU!

John Pallotta actors are given opportunities they won’t find in any other acting class, including intensive camera work and on-set, on-location study, where students get a chance to explore all facets of film work, from lighting, sound, location scouting and directing to working with each other on camera on a professional set. You put all this together and the result, we’ve found, is students coming out of our studio more prepared for not just the business, but life in general. To register with the studio, please call (646)619-7777 to arrange an audit and interview with John Pallotta or one of his assists.

On-Set Scene Study is for the actor who has taken a basic acting foundation class and is ready to take it to the next level. In this class, every actor is guaranteed to work every week on scenes and/or exercises. Students will be guided in applying more advanced acting techniques such as script analysis, character development and imagination work.

Physical, emotional and intellectual blocks will be explored, to help the actor grow as an artist, eliminate bad habits and develop as a storyteller.

Scenes and scene partners are assigned by the teacher. They are performed every other week, giving students ample time for rehearsal and incorporating notes.

This class also addresses the more practical elements of on-set acting, such as using props, hitting your mark and understanding eye-lines.

Classes run in in continuous cycles. This includes, in-studio rehearsals with feedback, critique and direction, culminating in a final “taping day” on week seven for all scenes, recorded on state of the art, high-definition equipment. All actors are provided with a copy of their performances.

OUR PROCESS

CHOOSING THE SCRIPT - A student can choose from amongst hundreds of scripts which we have selected from film and television.

REHEARSING THE SCENE - You’ll go to a rehearsal room and play the script with your scene partner in class and at home.

DEVELOPING THE CHARACTER - From Johns book CharacterWorks The Art of Emotional Triggering, you will learn how to develop your character both internally and externally. We have a number of props that can help in creating the character.

Allowing the Emotions

Some emotions are easier than others. By playing different characters, you will open up your emotional range.

Blocking - We will discover the natural movements of the characters as they are portrayed in the script.

Shooting the Scene - When it’s ready, we shoot your scene at no extra charge.

ADUITION TECHNIQUE

HOW TO STAND OUT IN THE AUDITION ROOM

On-Camera Audition Technique.

  • Filmed Auditioned Scenes Emailed to You (Philly Only)

Performing in the highly technical medium of film is challenging. BUT performing on-camera in an audition is even more challenging! No set, no props, no second take, no direction. Just you and a chair.

John Pallotta will show you how to create the kind of powerful, emotionally driven on-camera performances that transcend "an audition," and cause CDs, Directors, and Producers to sit up and take notice.

You'll master the intimacy needed in film and TV, you'll understand story structure and how to serve the story better. You'll work with marks and create environments simply and easily in the frame, and most importantly, you'll FEEL CONFIDENT AND COMFORTABLE ON-CAMERA EVERY TIME.

John won't talk down to you, or use a lot of "actor speak." John gives easy to understand, honest feedback that can immediately be used in your next take or your next audition.
